Probably Stolen Mods Guide: Steam Workshop Hub

Probably Stolen supports Steam Workshop mods, and the library is already large for a game this young. The Workshop has UI tweaks, quality-of-life tools, gameplay overhauls, translations, and utility mods. Some are cosmetic; some change the economy; a few change the game enough that they should be treated as a different experience.

This page is the hub. It covers the categories, the most subscribed mods, and the safety rules. For installation, see how to install mods. For troubleshooting, see mod compatibility.

Workshop categories

The Workshop's tag counts at the time of writing:

Tag Count What it covers
mod 68 General mods
translation 39 Language packs
gameplay 28 Rules and content changes
ui 19 Interface changes
mono 15 Mono-based mods
utilities 14 Tools and helpers
chinese 5 Chinese-language mods
english 4 English-language mods
qol 4 Quality-of-life

The counts overlap; a mod can be tagged gameplay, ui, and qol at once. Treat them as filters, not a partition.

The mono tag matters for compatibility. Mono mods depend on a specific loader/runtime, and a game patch can break them until the author updates. Check the last-updated date before subscribing to a Mono mod.

Which mods are safe for a first run?

For a first run, stick to UI and quality-of-life mods:

  • Shutter Events — useful information without changing the economy.
  • Item Details — fewer appraisal surprises.
  • Smart Inventory Arrange — less time sorting.
  • Reputation Pop — clearer feedback on faction changes.
  • Bargain Panel On The Left — a UI preference, not a balance change.

Avoid gameplay overhauls, multiplayer, and economy mods until you have finished a vanilla run. You cannot tell whether a balance change is good if you do not know the baseline.

Subscribe in small batches

Add one or two mods, play a session, then add more. A ten-mod batch makes it impossible to tell which mod caused a crash or a balance problem.

UI mods vs gameplay mods

UI mods change how information is displayed. They are usually the safest and the easiest to remove. Examples: Item Details, Reputation Pop, Shutter Events.

Gameplay mods change rules, add items, or alter the economy. They can conflict with each other and with patches. Examples: Brewing Expansion, CorpPresence, Lucky Perk Plus.

Utility mods add tools or storage. They often sit between UI and gameplay. Example: WaterTower.

Translation mods replace text. They can conflict with UI mods that add new text. See the translations guide.

Multiplayer and Mono

Probably Multiplayer is a gameplay mod that adds multiplayer support. It is not an official mode, and it may require all players to use the same mod version. Treat it as experimental.

Mono mods require the loader specified by the author. Do not install a Mono mod manually without reading its instructions. The compatibility guide covers the failure modes.

How to evaluate a mod

Before subscribing, check:

  1. Last updated. A mod that has not been updated since a major patch may be broken.
  2. Dependencies. Some mods require another mod or loader.
  3. Tag. UI and QoL are lower risk than gameplay overhauls.
  4. Description. Does it change the economy, save data, or only the interface?
  5. Comments. Look for crash reports, not just praise.
  6. Subscription count. Popular is not the same as compatible, but it is a signal that more players have tested it.

Mods and achievements

The sources used here do not document whether gameplay mods disable achievements. Assume that a mod changing the economy or adding content may affect achievement conditions. If you are hunting achievements, use UI-only mods or play vanilla.
